Collation of External Evidence for the Text and Variants In order to survey the external evidence, let us look at the Appendix 1 from the two perspectives of age and of geographical distribution. The alleged witnesses of καυχ σωμαι are P46 from the 3rd century CE, the Sinaiticus and Vaticanus of the 4th century CE and Alexandrinus of the 5th century CE. They belong to the first category of Greek witnesses namely, to the Alexandrian family which is said to best preserve the original. It has also a Caesarean witness in 048 which is an uncial of the 5th century, and two other later minuscules (33 and 1739). It is found also in the Byzantine text and in the lectionary598.
