logia that can be considered as riddles. He discusses questions of

LXX) in vergelijking met Johannes 15:1-8â€, SkrifK 20 (1999)
455-464. This art. compares the use of metaphor in both texts
against the background of metaphor’s theory in the Antiquity.

49. YOUNG, G.W., Subversive Symmetry. Exploring the Fantastic in Mark
6:45-56 (Biblical Interpretation 41). Leiden (Brill) 1999, X + 200
pp. The a. contends that historical-critical approaches lack the
terminology and conceptual categories necessary to provide an
adequate elucidation of this text. Then he establishes that Mk
6:45-56 is a product of the narrative art and offers an introduc-
tion to fantasy and fantastic as literary genre, and examines this
Markan text as an illustration of a fantastic discourse. It presents
also a rhetoric analysis of the dimensions of the passage. The
subversive symmetry in this text consists of a conflicting system
of perspectives between the disciples, Jesus and the narrator.
50. ZUMSTEIN, J., “Die johanneische Ostergeschichte als Erzählung gele-
senâ€, ZNT 3 (1999) 11-19. This art. is a narrative analysis. It
discusses the plot, the characters, the narrator’s commentaries
and the implicit author and reader.

Zürich (Pano) 1999, VII + 237 pp. This book is a collection of
art. published between 1989 and 1999. The a. makes wide use of
recent developments in literary sciences (specially narratology)
in order to clarify the Gospel narrative. See book review by G.
van Belle in ETL 76 (2000) 492-493.
RHETORIC
52. GRAVES, M., “Preaching Lukan Parables: A Socio-Rhetorical Ap-
proachâ€, SWJT 40 (1997) 17-32. This art. deals with three ques-
tions: What is the text saying? (the role of culture); What is the
text doing? (the rhetorical function), and the practical conclusion:
How can a sermon say and do the same (strategies for preach-
ing).
