In Chapter 15 of Acts, a point of critical importance for the growth of the Church and its relationship with Judaism is reached. Luke narrates the difficulty posed for Jewish Jesus-believers by the increasing number of Gentiles believers and the decision taken by the Church leaders in Jerusalem not to subject them to the usual conditions for proselytes. In the Bezan text, some conflict of opinion between Peter, Paul and Barnabas on the one hand, and James on the other is apparent, a tension that is attenuated in the Alexandrian text. Further conflict is also highlighted in Codex Bezae between Paul and Barnabas who separate following the meeting in Jerusalem.

B03 reads the finite form of the verb ἀναγγέλω (cf. 14:27), linked with
the connective τε, to create a clause that is distinct from the previous
one describing the reception of the travellers from Antioch by the church
in Ierousalem. D05, in contrast, has the verb ἀπαγγέλλω (cf. 4:23; 11:2
D05) in the form of a participle, which is dependent on the main clause
describing the handing over of the travellers from Antioch to the church
in Ierousalem.
The variant of the final clause concerns the place of the verb ἐποίησεν
in relation to the subject ὁ θεός. In both B03 and D05, the word order
is the reverse of what each text reads at 14:27. This time, it is D05 that
juxtaposes ὁ θεός and μετ’ αὐτῶν, underlining thereby the aspect of
collaboration. The placing of ὁ θεός before the verb in B03 underlines, in
comparison, the role of God.

The variants here concern the identity of those in Ierousalem who
insist on circumcision for the Gentiles. B03 introduces them without
further ado as ‘some people from among the party of the Pharisees who
had believed’, that is some of the Pharisees who were Jesus-believers. D05
begins by identifying them as the people who had gone to Antioch; and
adds the further description in an emphatic position, after the participle
λέγοντες. The description differs slightly from the B03 text: they are
‘certain people from the party of the Pharisees who had believed’. The
genitive article τῶν in B03 has the effect of underlining their identity
as Pharisees, an emphasis that is expressed more forcefully through the
word order in D05.

The particle δέ in D05 is a marker of intensity (B-D-R, §557.1c; cf.
14:23), stronger than τε though even this confers importance on the
second of the two infinitives.
